Vietnam Air Force
History of the 522nd Fighter Squadron.
Pilot Phan Khoi
Phan Khoi was a South Vietnamese Air Force (VNAF) student pilot, with the 3551st Pilot Training Squadron (PTS) when he was at Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Georgia in the 1962 - 1963 timeframe
He and other Vietnamese pilot students spent Christmas 1962 with the Pilkinton family.
It is believed that this may of been Bobby R. Pilkinton who we find as an instructor pilot with the 3512 PTS at Randolf Air Force Base, Texas in 1966.
Billy Mobley was Phan Khoi's first solo instructor on the T-28 at Valdosta, GA after Phan Khoi completed language school at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
Billy Mobley left the 3551st Pilot Training Squadron after Christmas 1962 to go to the 3512th PTS in Randolph to teach pilots to fly the T-28.
Phan Khoi graduated from flight training at Moody in August of 1963 and returned to Vietnam. He later went on to fly A-1's - Researching on where VNAF pilots were trained in the A-1.
Phan Khoi was assigned to the 522 Fighter Squadron (VNAF) and died during an aerial demonstration on October 1, 1966 at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Vietnam while flying an A-1G aircraft.
Any information on Mr. Khoi from any time period would be greatly appreciated.
